The first meeting should go beyond price
An ERP conversation often begins with user numbers. How many people will use the system? Which package is needed? What happens to the current licence? These are necessary questions. But a quotation prepared without understanding how the company works may not reflect the real scope.
One user may only issue invoices while another plans production. They appear on the same user list, but their needs differ. The licence discussion should therefore run alongside a review of business workflows.
What sits outside the standard application?
Start by recording the current product and version. Then list custom reports, Excel connections, SQL views, scheduled tasks and exchanges with other applications. Even a small transfer utility running on an old computer can be essential to daily operations.
For each item, ask three questions: who uses it, when does it run, and which task stops if it fails? Do not leave unowned processes until migration day.
Evaluate the package with your own transactions
A product demonstration is useful, but following one of your typical transactions from start to finish is more informative. Take a sales order, a partial delivery and an invoice. Discuss what changes when a transaction is returned or cancelled.
When considering Logo Edge T-Series, check compatibility with current modules and custom developments separately. A function with a familiar name does not mean an existing customisation will work unchanged.
Set acceptance criteria for go-live
“The application opens” is not a sufficient check. Compare selected customer balances, stock quantities, open orders and critical reports. Any difference should be explained and recorded.
The transition plan should cover backups, a test environment, user training, downtime and rollback conditions. Agreeing who approves each step reduces uncertainty at the end.
What can you prepare for the discussion?
Product and version details, a user list, active modules, three important report examples and an integration list make a useful starting point. Incomplete documentation is also relevant: the review plan should reflect it.
The purpose of an initial meeting with ER-TE is to identify your requirements and define the review. We prefer to base the package recommendation on that understanding.
